FAQ's
Why was my insurance company billed if I am a Subscription Member?
Westerly Ambulance Corps will bill your insurance company such are Medicare, Blue Cross or Medicaid if you have insurance. Any balance remaining will be covered under your Subscription Membership and you will not be responsible for the remainder.
I received a bill from another ambulance service such as MedTech, Professional, or American Ambulance but I am a Subscription Member of Westerly Ambulance.
It is your responsibility to request the Westerly Ambulance Corps if you are a member of our Subscription program. A non-emergency or interfacility transport must meet Subscription rules. In order to complete the transport Westerly Ambulance needs a completed medical necessity form signed by a physician. If you are in need of psychiatric transfer to another facility you need to be a certified psychiatric patient in order for Westerly Ambulance to be able to transport you. In order for Westerly Ambulance to be able to take the transport it also needs to originate in Rhode Island and we must have an available crew.
Why did another ambulance service respond to my 9-1-1 emergency?
The Westerly Ambulance Corps provides a number of paid employees, volunteers and ambulances to meet the community’s needs. If all available ambulances and personnel are responding to other emergencies or medical transportation requests, the closest available ambulance from a neighboring community will respond mutual aid. The Corps currently offers reciprocity with all of our neighboring services to ensure that you will not end up with a bill if you are a Subscription Member. You will have to call our office and let us know which ambulance service transported you to the hospital so the Corps can ensure orderly processing of call.
Who do I call if I need to provide insurance information for my claim or have billing related questions?
Our billing agency is Coronis Health and they can be reached at 401-572-3120.
Why was I transported to a hospital other than L&M-Westerly Hospital?
There are certain medical conditions that require ambulance personnel to transport you to the closest most appropriate facility that is able to treat your emergency. These decisions are required by state EMS Protocols and Regulations and sometimes by medical direction of the Westerly Hospital. Our personnel have received extensive training in assessing illness and injuries that require transport to a facility other than Westerly Hospital that will provide the best care for you or your family member. Although some of these hospitals may be farther away, they have the most qualified staff and equipment on hand to treat specific illnesses or injuries
Why did I get a bill if I was not transported to the hospital?
If Westerly Ambulance provides you treatment and/or assessment and you decide that you do not want to go to the hospital we may still bill you for our services.
